A
WELL-PLANNED summer vacation won’t do without a trip to
the ATM. Before you hit the road, board the bus, or get
on that plane, make sure you remember these friendly
reminders from the country’s longest-running and most
extensive ATM network, MegaLink.
Set a
budget.
Set a budget for your vacation. Itemize your spending
for souvenirs, gifts and similar expenses. You may also
want to think about how much cash you’ll be carrying, so
you know how much you’ll need to withdraw using an ATM,
and what items will be charged to your credit card.
Check
your ATM network.
Before
you embark on your vacation, find out where you can use
the ATM card in the places you’ll be going. For MegaLink
ATMs, an ATM locator is available at www.megalink.com.ph.
Aside from the ATM location, you may also want to know
the establishments where you can debit your ATM account
for purchases. Or, you can just look for the MegaLink
logo (for MegaLink ATMs) or ask the cashier if you can
use your ATM card for your purchases.
Know the
card-transaction limits.
Most banks limit the amount of money you can withdraw in
a day. While it’s not advised that you withdraw large
amounts of cash, you may want to know how much you can
access in case of emergency.
Treat
your card like cash.
Always
keep your ATM card in a safe place. Do not disclose your
card number, account number and PIN to anyone. Use a PIN
that is not related to your personal information such as
birthday, address or phone number. Do not write the PIN
on your ATM card, or on any material that may be found
with your card.
Know
where to call when your card is lost/stolen.
Make sure you know where to call if your ATM card is
lost or stolen to prevent unauthorized use. It is also
good to have your account numbers stored in a safe place
so you can report lost or stolen cards without calling
home and having someone go through your documents.
Make
sure the ATM site is safe.
If
you’re transacting in a location you are unfamiliar with
and the area looks questionable, choose a more protected
place. Also, block the view of others when using the
ATM. Do not allow anyone to see the ATM screen while
making your transaction and cover your fingers as you
enter your PIN on the keypad.
In case
of emergency.
MegaLink
ATMs can enable cardholders of accredited MegaLink banks
to transfer money in real time to accounts in other
accredited MegaLink banks. In a MegaLink ATM, choose
“Other Services” then “Funds Transfer” and follow the
directions onscreen. For medical emergencies, note that
hospitals and clinics using MediLink POS terminals also
accept MegaLink cards for payments. |
