  • Lady Falcons get back at Lady
    Tams for 1st-round sweep

ADAMSON University scored a revenge of sorts against Far Eastern University (FEU), annexing a 25-17, 25-11, 25-22 victory Sunday to complete its sweep of the first-round action in the Shakey’s V-League Season 5 at The Arena in San Juan.

Guest player Neriza Bautista delivered the last three hits for the Lady Falcons in the third set, foiling the Tams’ rally and finishing the first phase of the elims without dropping a set in five games.

“It’s nice to beat FEU since it served as some sort of revenge to our loss in the last UAAP finals,” said Adamson coach Dulce Pante, referring to her wards’ setback to the Tams in sudden death in the recent University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) finals.

Bautista made sure of keeping the Falcons’ unblemished record in the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza, at least in the first round, with three consecutive kills after the Tams, behind Maica Morada, rallied from a 12-19 deficit to close within 21-22.

“It was actually a team effort. I commend my players’ discipline and camaraderie,” said Pante.

Bautista finished with 15 points while Rissa Laguilles backed her up with 10 points, all on attacks, the last giving Adamson a 19-12 lead in the third set.

Angela Benting and Michelle Segodine each tossed in seven points, while Janet Serafica had six and Jacqueline So turned in five points for Adamson.

Incidentally, the Falcons will open their second-round campaign in the league, organized by Sports Vision and backed by Active White skin-whitening products, Mail and More, ICT Call Center, Mikasa and Accel, against FEU again tomorrow.
