LINGAYEN—Pangasinan Gov. Amado Espino Jr. and Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Avelino Razon Jr. will make the ceremonial shots to open the Philippine Military Academy Masigasig Class ’72 Governor’s Cup Shootfest from May 2 to 4 at the PNP Firing Range here.

Shooters from Metro Manila and other provinces are expected to troop to Pangasinan to join local marksmen in the Governor’s Cup, which is one of the highlights of this year’s Pangasinan Pistay Dayat 2008 celebrations.

Police Supt. Harris Fama, head of the tournament secretariat, said the event is open to all interested parties. Registration fee is P1,000.

Fama added the event is a fundraising project of Espino. The proceeds will go to the refurbishing of the provincial PNP headquarters.

Law enforcers coming from the PNP, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) will have a chance to show their marksmanship in the competitions.

Awarding ceremony is set at 5 p.m. of May 4 at the Pangasinan PPO Firing Range.

For more details, contact Col. Pat Orduńa, event coordinator, at 542-3347, or Fama at 0916-6742561.

    Amazing Triathlon Event

THE Amazing Triathlon Event (ATE) will also serve as one of the highlights of this year’s Pangasinan Pistay Dayat celebration.

Pistay Dayat 2008 executive chairman Raffy Baraan said the triathlon event is locally dubbed the Lumbay Langoy, Bisikleta tan Batik. It will be held on April 30 in different venues.

“Triathlon is an endurance sport composed of three events, namely, swimming, cycling and marathon,” said event coordinator Modesto Operania.

Participants will first swim from Bonuan Gueset at the mouth of Pantal River to Pugaro in Dagupan City, then mount their bikes from Pugaro up to the PNP Target Range in Lingayen and finally run a foot race to the Urduja House Beach Front.
