THE talented all-men group Sabado Boys—composed of Jimmy Bondoc, Paolo Santos, Luke Mijares, Top Suzara, DJ Myke and Mike Chan—had a most memorable and memorably unique performance when it did a sunset serenade at the Pearl of the Pacific beachfront in Boracay, captivating the hearts of locals and tourists—and, especially, the talented MTV VJ Andi9 Manzano.

Dubbed as ‘Boracay Sunset Serenade’, the boys—individually already a veteran in the music scene—took their cue from the waning sun to fill the breeze with romantic love songs.

“We entertained people for almost three hours and 20 minutes, in what was supposed to be a one-hour program,” said Mike.

Top added, “We had to stop, of course, when all of us began feeling hunger pangs, but the audience was asking for more.”

Andi9, the new endorser of Ellips cologne, was delighted to know that the Sabado Boys was also present during the launch of three new additional scents: Allure, Tease and Charm.

Andi9 and the boys had their first close encounter during the shoot of the new Ellips commercial. In Boracay they helped Andi9 out in giving posters and free cologne samples, and also signing autographs and posing for souvenir photos.

Sabado Boys ended the exciting night of music with a thoroughly involved game of beach volleyball with other Boracay revelers.

Asked what’s next for the group, the Sabado Boys shared its excitement over a program that will air this April on Studio 23 every Saturday afternoon.

“It will be a serious music-talk show, with spoof fillers to avoid dead air in between. The show is intended for people who can appreciate music and our jokes,” explained Top.

Paolo added, “Since there are no script restrictions, it’s a lot more exciting. We don’t even have idiot boards or prompters, only bullet points.”

“The show is a team production. We ourselves are doing the lighting, coordination and production design, with the help of our barkada editor, Nico Alcuaz,” said mouth beat boxer DJ Myke.

Asked about the competition within the group, Jimmy denied any such issues and maintained that there’s real friendship among them. “Our group was formed without casting, and we don’t have to be told to act like friends, because we really are,” said Jimmy.

He continued, “In fact, our Saitai album cover is courtesy of DJ Myke’s photographic skills, and the pictures inside were shot by Top.”
