  • Substituted filing seen to
    ease long BIR queues

THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), which has been urging the public to prepare early for the April 15 submission and tax-payment deadline, has reminded tax filers anew of its regulation issued in 2002, providing for substituted filing of income-tax returns of employees receiving income from one employer.

This regulation was issued in hopes of reducing queues, since not all income earners are still required to go to the BIR and file their returns. That task, however, was placed in the hands of their employers, and the tax agency urged them to attend to the necessary measures prior to the filing, such as giving the BIR in diskette form a list of all the company’s employees.

The April 15 deadline of filing will not be extended, so the BIR invited attention to its Tulungan Centers (see box) to help tax filers. The list of such centers will run in the BusinessMirror in the run-up to April 15.

The BIR also has a contact center, (02) 981-8888, that can accept as many as 30 calls at the same time on all questions on the BIR issuances and policies, among others.
