  • Suspected hijacker who dropped
    Razon’s name nabbed, charged

    By Rene Acosta
    Reporter

DIRECTOR General Avelino Razon Jr., National Police chief, on Sunday warned the public anew against unscrupulous individuals who misuse his name and those of other top officials of the police organization.

“I have standing orders to all police units to arrest any person who will misuse the name of the National Police and its top leadership in unlawful activities or to get away with criminal liability,” Razon said.

Razon’s warning came in the wake of the filing of criminal charges for usurpation of authority, falsification of public documents, hijacking and carjacking by the Valenzuela City Police against a man who misrepresented himself as an “aide” of the National Police chief.

On Easter Sunday, Cerilo Calvo, 27, was arrested by policemen while allegedly unloading P1.2 million worth of stolen construction materials at Arty Subdivision in Lawang Bato, Valenzuela City. The cargo was hi-jacked in Caloocan City.
When accosted by responding policemen, Calvo allegedly introduced himself as a police inspector and “aide” of Razon. He even allegedly flashed Razon’s official business card.

But when further investiga ted, police officers found that Cavo only dropped Razon’s name.

Senior Supt. Nicanor Bartolome, National Police spokesman, said the incident was a “glaring and unfortunate example” of how some people can misuse the official business card of “Mamang Pulis.”

“The chief, National Police, gives away his calling card for the sole purpose of establishing direct contact with the public in case there are re- ports or complaints that people want him to know,” Bartolome said.

These calling cards, including the Mamang Pulis Volunteer IDs, are not passes to get away with illegal activities nor a license to violate the law,” he said.

On January 28 a businessman complained of being forced to shell out P10,000 by persons who identified themselves as members of Police Justice Group, allegedly composed of policemen, lawyers, other professional and media practitioners.

The amount is purportedly for the victim’s sponsorship of the “educational program” of the Police Justice Group.
The group reportedly uses the official seal of the National Police in its stationery.

Razon has ordered the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group to dig deeper into the activities of the organization.
