    VSSC launches clientless network

VSSC Distribution Inc., an enterprise security-solutions provider, launched Tuesday the ForeScout Technologies clientless network access control (NAC) solutions in the Philippines.

The NAC solution, according to Fore-Scout general manager for the Asia-Pacific region Richard Galpin, is “clientless in the sense that you do not need to install software” to activate the network-security system. “You simply plug in the appliance.”

In a statement, VSCC said the introduction of the NAC solutions is meant to provide the best network security solution for an organization—internally and externally.

“ForeScout solutions allow customers to control their company’s network security without disrupting end-user productivity, [and] stems from the growing array of security issues companies deal with today, particularly those of exposures introduced by contractors, guests and mobile [and] home employees who are given access to an enterprise’s physical and traditional network-security mechanisms.”

VSSC founder and president Jun Santos said the growth in interest in NAC is shown by an increase in “security requests for proposals that are specifically for NAC. We saw 2007 as a year of a significant increase in awareness of NAC.”

Santos said “simple NAC is important,” particularly in the United States and for firms that deal with American companies, “but executive management is increasingly looking at NAC as a way to address the corporate compliance issues, such as SoX and new regulations regarding credit-card processing.”

“ForeScout’s NAC solutions enable customers to gain and maintain complete control over network security without disrupting end-user productivity,” Galpin said. “Our solutions enable companies to ensure standards compliance within their networks as well as deal with intrusions by worms, hackers and such.”

The potential opportunities presented by ForeScout’s entry into the Philippine market through its partnership with VSSC Distribution Inc., Galpin said, is that “companies in the Philippines will now have access to technology that opens lines of communication and linkages between the personnel, IT and management departments.”

VSSC distribution head Edison de Guzman said the ForeScout NAC “takes only half a day to set up.”

Santos said the technology “won’t bring your network down, even when it needs repair.”

Santos added that VSSC is eyeing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as target market for the ForeScout NAC, as well as enterprises that require a high but flexible mode of network security, such as banks. He also said each NAC appliance can secure up to 200 network-connected computers.
