City—Zannie Boy Gialon issued an apology to coach Luigi
Yulo, team officials Rolly Viray and Darly Patalot, and
his teammates after he forgot to crosscheck his
scorecard Wednesday that cost Canlubang a deduction of
two points from the total team score for the day.
The
trouble stemmed from Gialon’s violation of Rule 14 of
the PAL Interclub rules on pick-up which states that if
a player has no more chance a to make a point in a
particular hole, he must stop and mark his scorecard
with an “X” to indicate a pick-up.
“My
scorer from Del Monte was the one who wrote that six on
the card instead of an ‘X.’ But I’m not complaining
because it was also my responsibility to double-check
it,” said a disappointed Gialon.
The “X”
score, or equivalent to zero point under the PAL points
system, must be placed on the scorecard to speed up
play.
“He’s
still a young kid. However, rules apply to everyone.
It was precious points, alright, but we accepted the
consequence,” said Yulo.
The two
points shelved off Canlubang’s 132 to 130 enabled Manila
Southwoods to come close with a 127.
“We
always remind our boys to be alert with everything that
they do on and off the course. It was unfortunate that
it happened to us. Zannie Boy [Gialon] was so repentant
of his wrongdoing. The team accepted it without
reservations,” said Canlubang team adviser Viray.
But
after Thursday’s competition, it was clear that Gialon’s
incident was a thing of the past. Canlubang had already
gotten an even bigger lead—24 points—which practically
dashed Southwoods’ hopes of halting the threepeat streak
of the Sugar Barons.
“Wala
na iyon. Nakalimutan na namin ang nangyari. Basta kami
lalaban pa rin sa third day para talagang masabi na
namin na sa amin na ang championship title,” Viray
added. |
