Angelo Que sizzled with a three-under-par 67 to
be three shots behind the 64s of provisional coleaders
David Branson of Australia and Joost Luiten of The
Netherlands in the first round Thursday of the Enjoy
Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open in Jakarta.
Que took
charge in the front nine with four birdies and was
already atop the leaderboard with a 32 at the turn.
However, he collapsed at the backside with three
consecutive bogeys.
Que
recovered in time with two straight birdies on Nos. 16
and 17 to go one-over en route to that 67 at the end of
the rain-delayed round played at the Cengkareng Golf
Club.
“It was
so soggy out there. The rains literally dampened the
fairways and that made it doubly difficult to place
shots where I hoped them to be,” Que said.
Antonio
Lascuna carded a two-under 68 and was four shots down.
Gerald Rosales, Frankie Mińoza and Juvic Pagunsan had
yet to finish their rounds, while Artemio Murakami shot
a 68 but was disqualified for signing a wrong scorecard.
Brandson
battled the wet and windy conditions with impeccable
putting.
The
first-timer on the Asian Tour sank seven birdies against
a solo bogey—something he described as a sign of better
things to come in the next few days.
“I lost
my European Tour card at the end of last year. I went to
qualifying school but didn’t get back in. So a win here
this week would be a great way to change everything,”
said Brandson.
Luiten,
meanwhile, thanked both his putter and swing for the
several birdie opportunities he made.
“It was
quite tough with the wind, but my putter was pretty hot
today. I just hit a lot of the greens, fairways and gave
myself a lot of birdie opportunities,” said Luiten.
Play was
suspended for about an hour because of heavy rains.
