  • Nograles rushing formation of committee
to tackle proposed reforms in House

SPEAKER Prospero Nograles is rushing the formation of the House of Representatives ad hoc special committee that will collect, process and classify various reform proposals from members of the lower chamber.

Nograles said Sunday he hopes to have the committee organized within the week to speed up reforms that would help improve the performance and the image of the House.

Nograles said there is a swarm of written proposals on reforms that should be implemented, and this makes it more imperative for the immediate formation of the ad hoc body.

“There are several proposals about what we should do, including matters on the internal affairs of the House… about the employees, apart from the internal concerns of congressmen. Hinihimay-himay natin ito, and we are now accepting all these proposals,” said Nograles.

“Meron ng mga written proposals pero gagawa tayo ng isang ad hoc special committee, hihimayin ito sa lalong madaling panahon to be able to effect the changes that would improve the performance and the image of the House,” he added.

The House of Representatives has one of the lowest popularity ratings in the government in various surveys.

Nograles has yet to name the members of the ad hoc special committee as this has to be done in consultation with the House members.

Nograles also said there will be no changes yet in committee chairmanships, pointing out that any revamp should be in consonance with the reform-action plan that would be implemented.

“So far the center of our discussions is the reforms that we need to immediately implement, not the reorganization of committees. If there will be a reorganization, it will be in harmony with the reforms that we want to put in place,” Nograles said.

“Reorganization will require a little time. For now, what we want to do is to unify the House first and heal the wounds, iyong mga sama ng loob aayusin natin, pagagandahin ang working relationship ng lahat. Iyon naman ang natural course,” he added.
