    Panky on the hotel-trashing issue

Panky Trinidad was a former call-center agent and band member in Cebu. She was forced by her friends to join ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Dream Academy. She loves to sing but never saw herself joining the reality search.

Among the many who auditioned, she made it to the final ist of scholars; inside the house, she developed her self-confidence both as a singer and as an individual. For a spell, Panky chose to concentrate in corporate gigs here and in Cebu as there were controversial issues thrown at her but she chose to keep quiet and put all that behind her. But for the first time, she talks about that infamous incident in the US, which led to her alleged suspension.

You’re now sporting a new look with blonde hair.…

Yup. I was made to undergo a makeover courtesy of Antonio Hairdressing. I’m loving it, because it makes me look more fierce. Too bad I still don’t have a pictorial with this new style so that people would see my new look.

Does this mean that you’re back in showbiz after your hiatus?

Yes, I really love performing. At first I thought it was only a hobby for me, but when I entered Pinoy Dream Academy and did fairly well reaching the Final 6, it rekindled my passion for music. Now I can’t imagine doing anything else. While I was not seen on TV, I was doing some gigs in Cebu, which is my hometown.

Your going back to Cebu, was it triggered by all the negative issues thrown at you....That during the PDA US tour, you allegedly got drunk and trashed your hotel room and even said nasty things to Pinoy fans there.

Whew, that’s a lot! OK, I’ll talk about those things, finally, and I’ll do so comfortably because I know the truth. I never did those things. I never instigated any drinking, nor did I say bad things to our fans. Why would I? It’s because of the fans’ support that we are enjoying the success we have. It’s because of them that we were able to do a US tour in the first place.

In fact, I heard that you are very nice to your fans...

I’ve never heard anyone complain about me, that’s for sure. My fans are my friends. In fact, during my recent birthday, they threw a party for me. It was (themed like) a children’s party actually, and we had so much fun.

So how do you feel about all those rumors that came out?

First of all, I’m so happy that I’ve been given a chance to clear my name. I just felt that I became a scapegoat for all these issues. I certainly don’t deserve it and now I’m more determined to make everything right. I’m a new person now. As seen with my new hair! [Laughs] And I plan to continue this makeover. I accepted the dare of stylist Luis Espiritu to lose more weight, which I plan to do so!

So what can we expect from you in the near future?

As I said, I’m back, so I will do more TV guestings with the help of my new—and better—management company Star Magic. I also plan to do more performance gigs.
