transport groups are expected to withdraw their fare
increase petitions filed with the Land Transportation
Franchising and Regulatory Board (ltfrb) before the end
of the month.
The
transport groups, led by United Transport Koalisyon (1
Utak), have expressed willingness to withdraw their
petitions for fare increase after the government have
satisfied their demands on the launching of an effective
campaign against colorum and out-of-line vehicles.
LTFRB
chairman Thomson Lantion reported that during a hearing
on December 17, the board consolidated the fare increase
petitions of the Pinagkaisahang Samahan ng Tsuper at
Operator Nationwide (Piston) and 1 Utak.
In
addition, the LTFRB consolidated the separate petitions
for fare increase filed by the Provincial Bus Operators
Association of the Philippines (Pboap) and the Metro
Manila Bus Operators Association (Mmboa).
However
because of the effective performance of Task Force
Kontra Kotong and Kolorum (TFKKK) and the recently
rollback in diesel prices by small oil players, the LFRB
has canceled the January 10 fare increase hearing and
moved it to January 24 to give more time to all
transport groups to submit their position papers.
One of
the groups expected to submit their position papers is
the North East Manila Bus Operators Association led by
its president Eleanor Santos.
“I am
very optimistic that in the year 2008, transport groups
will continue to show their cooperation and unity to the
government, I hope that there will be no fare increase
for the year,” Lantion added. |
