JUST for
the name itself, it is but right to have Texas Roadhouse
Grill in El Pueblo Real de Manila right at the center of
the Ortigas Business District.
How we
love to be reminded of the action-packed scenes from
those Western films of yore—rowdy cowboys drinking in
the bar before a shooting spree, the town sheriff
barging in with his deputy to stop a fight, and
midriff-baring lovely señoritas serving grilled
baby-back ribs, nachos, fajitas and endless beer.
Except
for the cowboys and cowgirls, all this can be found in
Texas Roadhouse Grill, touted as the first modern
Western saloon in the Philippines.
The
first branch was opened in Bonifacio High Street in
Taguig City almost a year ago. For nightowls always
looking for something new, that branch in Bonifacio
Global City can be the more relaxing thirst-quencher of
the moment, specifically for beer.
The
first time we went there, Texas Roadhouse Grill was the
only establishment offering beer, and it has the perfect
location for the usual session. The smoking area is just
right, given the view of the entire stretch of the High
Street stores and the ample oxygen supply from the
natural environment.
If you
go there beyond
midnight, it’s like drinking somewhere not in the
Philippines, or at least beyond what the usual
nightspots offer. The roads leading to it suddenly
become bare, with only about one or two vehicles passing
by every 10 minutes. From where you are seated, at the
background are well-lit rows of trees and bare lands,
plus a few buildings still under construction. And this
is the closest thing to serenity flavored with beer and
authentic cowboy-inspired appetizers.
The
better news is that they offer an affordable
beer-in-a-bucket package, composed of six favorite local
beers. They go well with the Jesse James Sampler—a combo
of chicken tenders, buffalo wings and wild cheese
fritters with sauce for dipping. You just need to go
there earlier, especially at nighttime, because there
are a lot of beer connoisseurs vying for the open-air
tables.
The
newly opened Texas Roadhouse Grill in El Pueblo is where
we experienced the latest entries on the menu. Going
there lunchtime on a weekday could mean fighting for a
seat. But there are sheriffs who will make sure that
you’d get a seat.
It is
assured that both branches have juicy imported US
steaks, tender ribs and chops, ocean-fresh seafood,
all-time favorite chicken dishes and more.
Check
out the Santa Fe Nachos, Grilled Cowboy Skillets and
Loaded Texas Chip. The Sheriff’s recommendations for the
light eater are Roadhouse Lite, Rodeo Steak and Oriental
Chicken Salad.
The most
wanted on the menu are the double-basted Baby-Back Ribs,
Wrangler Pork Steak, Franks & Fries, Fajitas, Soft Chili
Tacos, Cherokee Chicken Sandwich and the ’Ol Texas
Burger.
Words
will never be enough to describe each entry on the menu
and the actual experience is what matters. Before this
article begins to sound like a menu, both branches are
open daily, starting at 11 am till well beyond midnight. |
