THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has agreed to pay the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in what is shaping up as a settlement of P3.6 billion in assessed tax liabilities, without the central bank admitting liability.

SENATE probers confirmed on Thursday that more than P114 million in the so-called Quedan and Rural Credit Guarantee Corp. (Quedancor) swine scam loan proceeds were allegedly disbursed for questionable fees paid to various groups and individuals just before the 2004 elections, tending to bolster suspicion that a huge chunk of the fund was diverted to the administration’s presidential campaign.
